Finding Out What Happens When You Bring A Gun To An ICE Fight – HotAir

Must Try

On August 25th, 2020, Kyle Rittenhouse traveled from his home in Antioch, Illinois, to take part in the riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin after the shooting death of Jacob Blake by police. Armed with an AR-15-style long gun, at only 17 years of age, Rittenhouse found himself arrested and tried on several major felonies, including first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless homicide. Three people were shot dead by Rittenhouse that night. Rittenhouse’s defense, a successful one, was that all three were in self-defense. A jury acquitted him of all charges, and as for possession of the weapon in the first place, in Wisconsin, long guns that are not altered into short barrels may be in the possession of minors, but cannot be sold to a minor. It was a limited ruling, but one that did not place Rittenhouse in any legal jeopardy for having the gun on him. For Wisconsin’s purposes, he was legally carrying the gun. Whether he should have been there in the first place is another question entirely.

After the carnage and when police caught up with Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old had several options in front of him – shoot it out with police, resist arrest, and/or run and take his chances, or this.

He immediately surrendered, presenting himself as a non-threat to police officers already on a hair-trigger by the riots going on all around them. Again, whatever you ascribe to the decision-making process that took him to Kenosha, this was the common-sense maneuver right here. It saved his life.

Saturday in Minneapolis, Alex Pretti, a VA nurse radicalized and mobilized by the far left, decided this was the day he would take part in ruining an ICE operation to remove more criminal illegal aliens from the state, and ultimately, the country. This is the video of the last moments of his life, where he was filming Border Patrol agents establishing a perimeter for an operation. As part of that perimeter, agents were forceful in pushing back a woman who was protesting and impeding them, knocking her to the ground. That’s when Pretti chose to inject himself into the fray, first by directing traffic into the ongoing ICE perimeter they were trying to establish, making the situation intentionally more dangerous, and then grabbing a federal agent in the process of arresting the female protester.

Pretti was armed at the time, and although he had a valid permit to carry, he chose a completely different course of action than Kyle Rittenhouse did six years ago. According to Border Patrol chief Greg Bovino, he was not carrying identification on him, which is a significant no-no in the carry permit world.

Pretti was impeding a federal operation, assaulted a federal agent, resisted arrest, and had a gun and multiple magazines of ammunition on him while resisting arrest. In the scrum that took him to the ground, one agent yelled, “Gun!” after seeing Pretti’s holstered sidearm. An agent behind Pretti saw his empty holster a split second later. It’s entirely possible he did not see another agent disarm Pretti while he was on the ground. But in measurements of milliseconds, when other agents are alerted that the suspect not yet in custody and actively resisting has a gun, and no gun is visible in the holster, agents can reasonably conclude that the gun is now in play.

The Supreme Court’s landmark 1989 case on the use of excessive force, Graham V. Connor, specifically held that

  • Courts must judge an officer’s use of force from the perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene,
  • Without considering the officer’s underlying intent or motivation,
  • And with recognition that officers often make split‑second decisions in tense, rapidly evolving situations.
  • This ruling replaced earlier approaches that looked at whether officers acted “maliciously” or with improper intent. The Court said intent doesn’t matter — only whether the force was objectively reasonable under the circumstances.

In short, if someone, even one legally permitted to carry a weapon, nevertheless commits a felony and presents an imminent threat by resisting arrest with no knowledge of the location of the gun, it is objectively reasonable under the circumstances to neutralize the threat. There is no Constitutional mandate that officers need to wait to be shot before being allowed to respond.

There was a lot of Zapruderizing of the video all weekend, and in some analyses, it’s possible that the weapon Pretti was carrying might have accidentally discharged to cause the fatal shots to be fired. If that indeed occurred, it’s very possible that officers decided this was getting too Western, and it was time to end the threat.

There will naturally be a full investigation of what happened, but that has not stopped the people who have made a career out of hating Donald Trump and everything he stands for to…hate Donald Trump and everything he stands for in this shooting as well. All that is noise. For the left, the noise is meant to weaken Republicans and Donald Trump’s standing with the American people so that the midterms go the Democrats’ way and the government is paralyzed for the final two years of Trump’s term. Believe me, the entire Democratic apparatus has not suddenly become 2nd Amendment absolutists.

While the investigation will take a while to conclude, some very disturbing facts came to light after the shooting. There was a robust Signal chat thread of which Pretti was included, and there were operatives going all the way into office of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to agitate and organize protesters and activists like Pretti. Cam Higby, who helped break the Somali fraud that was happening in Washington State a few weeks ago, cracked the Signal code. Also included in the roster, allegedly, is Minnesota Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan.

Lefty media is saying their “sources” inside the White House tell them the Trump administration is getting squeamish and is about to throw in the towel on Minnesota. Donald Trump on Truth Social on Sunday indicated otherwise.

Governor Walz, meanwhile, continued to incite for more violence, comparing this to Anne Frank and Nazi Germany.

Except ICE agents aren’t trying to remove Anne Frank. They’re trying to remove rapists, murderers, drug dealers, gang members, and fraudsters. And the only state fighting them this hard to protect the criminal element is those apparently conspiring with the protesters to put the agents at increased risk.

So I actually know how to shoot a little bit, but do not currently own a gun. My dad and grandfather had lots, and I used to shoot with them on my grandfather’s avocado ranch. No, I wasn’t actually aiming for the pits. But if I were to A) legally own a weapon, and B) disagree strongly with police action upholding and carrying out federal immigration law, the last thing that would enter my consciousness is to go up to a federal agent already being harassed and inject myself into the fight without disclosing that I’m armed.

Messaging in the wake of the shooting, from both Trump officials, pundits, and media opposed to the administration, was all over the map, and at times, wildly inaccurate. But there is one hard truth that cannot be in dispute.

There is one man, and one man only, who is responsible for the death of Alex Pretti. His name is…Alex Pretti. I pray for his soul and for those around him who are affected by his loss. I also pray that the entire gaggle of leftists who are hellbent on defending Barrabas in order to combat Donald Trump cleaning up crime and sovereignty in one fell swoop do so without resorting to the very violence they purport to abhor.

Use your words, your signs, and your whistles. Sing hippie folk songs for all I care. But if you choose to go into a fight with armed federal agents with the intent of interfering or stopping them, and do so while armed with a deadly weapon and spare magazines indicating you intended to stay there armed for a while, you have to know this truth, even if the leftists in your Signal chat won’t tell it to you bluntly. You will almost certainly be shot dead.

And unless you can claim Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, who would never have put you in this situation in the first place, being dead goes on for an awfully long time. I don’t recommend getting to that eternal and irreversible state faster than absolutely necessary.
