David and I have both written about this idea promoted by author Helen Andrews. The gist of it is that the rise of wokeness as a force in society seems to correspond pretty well with the moment when women became the majority of major institutions where wokeness was happening. [emphasis added]
…like most people, I think of feminization as something that happened in the past before I was born. When we think about women in the legal profession, for example, we think of the first woman to attend law school (1869), the first woman to argue a case before the Supreme Court (1880), or the first female Supreme Court Justice (1981).
A much more important tipping point is when law schools became majority female, which occurred in 2016, or when law firm associates became majority female, which occurred in 2023…
Medical schools became majority female in 2019. Women became a majority of the college-educated workforce nationwide in 2019. Women became a majority of college instructors in 2023. Women are not yet a majority of the managers in America but they might be soon, as they are now 46 percent. So the timing fits. Wokeness arose around the same time that many important institutions tipped demographically from majority male to majority female.
Why does this matter? Because men and women are different and they behave differently in groups.
Men tend to be better at compartmentalizing than women, and wokeness was in many ways a society-wide failure to compartmentalize. Traditionally, an individual doctor might have opinions on the political issues of the day but he would regard it as his professional duty to keep those opinions out of the examination room. Now that medicine has become more feminized, doctors wear pins and lanyards expressing views on controversial issues from gay rights to Gaza. They even bring the credibility of their profession to bear on political fads, as when doctors said Black Lives Matter protests could continue in violation of Covid lockdowns because racism was a public health emergency.
And that brings us to this recent incident in Minneapolis where a yoga studio became the scene of a struggle session initiated by a woman activist who was demanding the company be more vocally anti-ICE. The yoga teachers appear stunned at suddenly being called out over something that has nothing whatsoever to do with their jobs.
Enraged spandex-clad customers at a Minneapolis CorePower Yoga studio berated staffers for being “complicit” in the federal immigration crackdown during a caught-on-camera clash last weekend — demanding that they immediately condemn ICE.
Video of the clash posted to social media by Heather Anderson, who claims to have been a regular at the location for nearly a decade, shows at least 13 women “spontaneously” facing off against two female staffers inside the studio’s lobby after a Sunday class let out…
“Give us answers, let’s go … let’s hear it — why are you being silent?” Anderson, 51, can be heard saying from behind the camera, while it’s pointed at a blond, wide-eyed staffer.
“You should have well-rehearsed corporate action and words ready to go … Delaney, let’s hear a Goddamn answer,” Anderson presses, as fellow customers can be heard snapping in approval, while the staffer appears to struggle for words.
Here’s the video of the incident.

The woman who filmed this and who led the attacks on the employees, Heather Anderson, was banned from returning. That’s good. Unfortunately, the company also caved in to her demands and is now distributing anti-ICE signs to their studios. Anderson took it as a win.
“What I said in that video landed,” she insisted.
“When that happens and the other party doesn’t want to engage with a learning stance — there’s a self-preservation stance — then they just dismiss you. They have more power than me, they have a corporation behind them — I am easy to swat away,” she told The Post.
A learning stance? The arrogance of these woke nitwits is off the charts. No one volunteered to take your class in wokeness, Heather. It’s a yoga studio not a political headquarters.
If she really had something to say to the company she could have sent an email or spoken to one of the employees privately. But with wokeness, public threats are the means. The woke won’t debate you they just demand your compliance.
This really does look like toxic feminization in this case because this is primarily women in this particular space. No woman in that room is likely to tell Heather to shut up and go to hell and no man (if one were there) would dare to do so either because he’d be accused of misogyny. And that’s what Heather, and people like her, are counting on. They use call-out culture as an excuse to verbally abuse people and get away with it.
Wokeness is the perfect politics for preening jerks who really just enjoy shouting down others in public. It’s a political viewpoint that is especially attractive to a particular personality type.
