Conservatives often get criticized for arguing that liberals go out of their way to protect sex offenders and other felons from arrest by federal law enforcement.
“Many of the people arrested are not felons! How dare you smear them?! They are our NEIGHBORS!”
Leave aside, for the moment, whether not having been caught committing a felony is sufficient reason to allow people who broke the law when they entered the country, and focus only on the accusation that the left is working hard to keep dangerous criminals in the country.
That accusation is manifestly true.

The key fact about Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota is that the targets of federal immigration enforcement are criminals, and the other illegal immigrants who are swept up in the operations were “collateral damage,” meaning that they were caught as a side effect of the agents having to go out into the community to arrest criminals that local politicians want to protect.
Illegal aliens are, in this sanctuary state, as common as grains of sand on a beach, so it is no surprise that federal agents are encountering them as they seek out the criminal aliens. And, as a bit of reminder to the dolts who get their panties in a bunch, those illegal aliens are here…illegally. Local officials decided they would rather put them in a position where they were likely to be caught, because they wanted to keep the criminals out of federal hands.
The claim that local politicians are not trying to protect the criminals is made crystal clear by the fact that they go crazy when federal agents arrest them at the courthouse. The Wisconsin judge who was found guilty of aiding a criminal alien trying to escape arrest had him in her courtroom because he assaulted his wife. She risked her career to ensure a man who had been arrested multiple times for abusing people could escape the fate of being deported.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty is incensed that two sex offenders who serially abused a minor were arrested at a county courthouse. There is no ambiguity here. Her concern was not for José and Maria, who are just trying to feed their baby in a manger. They are sex offenders who abused a minor.
Two people were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at the Hennepin County Government Center on Thursday following their court appearance on felony charges, as reported by multiple media outlets.
The move drew ire from Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty as well as the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office.
Daniel Alejandro Torrealba Mendez, 33, and Joseelin Josimar Castillo Sequera, 29, who both live in Plymouth, Minn., according to court documents, were charged last year with third-degree criminal sexual conduct, and aiding and abetting third-degree criminal sexual conduct, respectively, involving a minor who was age 14 at the time.
In a sane world, the county would have turned these offenders over to the federal government without a fuss. That is all that Tom Homan and the Trump administration are asking. Operation Metro Surge only exists in the first place because they refuse to do that. Every single riot, the two deaths of activists, the multiple injuries, the devastation of the tourism industry…all of it is caused by the refusal to turn people like this over to the feds.
100%. Turn over the criminals, and we are done.
Many people who voted for Trump would ask for more. After all, he promised to deport all illegal aliens he can, so the liberals should be happy that this is all they are trying to do at the moment. Turn over the criminals. That’s it. And our local officials not only say no, but are incensed that criminals will get deported. They talk about “war” with the federal government, and an “invasion” by the “Gestapo,” for no other reason than to keep these sex offenders here in Minnesota.
Moriarty’s complaints couldn’t be any clearer. Just as the defenses of Tren de Aragua made it clear elsewhere. It is the gang bangers, the sex offenders, the wife beaters…they refuse to even consider letting THEM be deported.
They are, after all, our NEIGHBORS.
Well, guess what? We don’t WANT them as our neighbors, and as illegal aliens, there is a simple and generally effective way to end the fact that they are: deport them. That is what the law allows; in fact, that is what the law demands.
And that is what the Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to prevent.
