Two additional pharmaceutical giants have begun selling their popular medications at a discounted rate on the White House’s TrumpRx website.
Expanding the administration’s “Most-Favored-Nation” (MFN) initiative, AbbVie and Genentech have agreed to list their prescription drugs at prices matching those of other developed nations. CBS News first reported the addition on Monday, and the president confirmed the expanded list via Truth Social the following day.
The inclusion of these two companies brings the total number of participating drugmakers to 11. Under the MFN framework, pharmaceutical companies lower U.S. domestic costs in exchange for exemptions from high import tariffs.
AbbVie struck a deal with President Trump in January. As a result, the administration has added Humira, a popular biologic medication used to treat autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, to its lineup. Two pens — about a one-month supply — retail for about $6,922.62 without insurance, but are offered for $950, or 86% off, on TrumpRx.
Humira works by blocking tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), a protein secreted by immune cells in the bloodstream that can cause inflammation.
Genentech has also begun selling its flu treatment and prevention medication, Xofluza, on the website for $50, which is 70% off the original price of $168.83. The White House first announced a deal with Genentech in December.
Xofluza blocks the enzyme PA endonuclease, which is used by the influenza virus to multiply in the body. This can treat the flu for people 5 years of age and over, and can prevent the flu in people under the age of 5 who have been in contact with an infected person.
TrumpRx, which went live in February, is primarily utilized by those without health insurance coverage for their prescription medications. It does not sell drugs directly, but TrumpRx coupons can be presented at a user’s usual pharmacy to lower the out-of-pocket cost of their prescriptions. Those who already have insurance are encouraged to check their copay to see if it’s a better deal before utilizing a coupon.
The new additions bring the total selection of drugs on TrumpRx to 61. The site also offers Ozempic for 51-81% off, and Wegovy for 74-85% off.
