Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into Lululemon, a billion-dollar activewear company, focused on the potential presence of \u201cforever chemicals\u201d in its clothing that are linked to various health issues. <\/p>\n

Paxton\u2019s (R-Texas) Monday statement detailed emerging research and reported consumer concerns over the potential presence of the polyfluoroalkyl chemicals (PFAS) in Lululemon attire, explaining that the state\u2019s investigation will determine if the brand has \u201cmisled consumers about the safety, quality, and health impacts of its products.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Attorney General also noted that, based on Lululemon\u2019s marketing, its health-conscious customers would not expect its clothing to possibly carry harmful synthetic materials. The statement further emphasized how the alleged chemical compounds in its apparel \u201cmay be associated with endocrine disruption, infertility, cancer, and other health issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAmericans should not have to worry if they are being deceived when trying to make healthy choices for themselves and their families,\u201d said Paxton. \u201cI will not allow any corporation to sell harmful, toxic materials to consumers at a premium price under the guise of wellness and sustainability. If Lululemon has violated Texas law, it will be held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Office of the Attorney General will also review the company\u2019s Restricted Substances List, testing protocols, and supply chain practices to determine whether Lululemon\u2019s products comply with its stated safety standards,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n

Lululemon, however, stated that it had not used PFAS in its products since they were \u201cphased out\u201d in 2024, according to the company\u2019s emailed statement sent to The Associated Press<\/em> on Monday. The company added that those chemicals had only been used in durable water-repellent products, which accounted for only a small portion of its apparel.<\/p>\n

The activewear company, which is based in Vancouver, Canada, said it that was cooperating by providing the requested information from the Attorney General\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe health and safety of our guests is paramount, and our products meet or exceed global regulatory, safety, and quality standards,\u201d Lululemon wrote in the statement. \u201cWe require all our vendors to regularly conduct testing for restricted substances, including PFAS, by credible third-party agencies to confirm ongoing compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Texas plans to review Lululemon\u2019s Restricted Substances List (RSL), testing protocols, and supply chain practices to determine if Lululemon\u2019s products truly adhere with its written safety standards.<\/p>\n

The investigation into the activewear company follows the Trump administration\u2019s emphasis on public health under the \u201cMake America Healthy Again\u201d (MAHA) agenda, as efforts continue to ensure drinking water is safe from microplastics and to remove harmful chemicals from food.<\/p>\n
